Moving overseas with your family?

Author: SUNRISE Source: SUNRISE 2017-05-26

Moving is challenging, whether it’s just to the next street or to a whole new continent. When it comes to relocating overseas, there’s even more to consider, especially if your young family is joining you. But don’t let that distract you from the once in a lifetime opportunity to live, work and play in a new country!

Did you know that Sunrise Relocation can be your single point of contact for removal, immigration, relocation, mobility, tax, expense and travel services? Even still, there are still a few things you’ll want to think about before jumping on the plane. We often find that when our clients know what to expect, the adjustment is much easier, so here are a few things that might help you too.

Insurance

When it comes to travelling with your family, risks are probably something you’d rather not take. While most frequent flyers will opt for travel insurance, fewer choose to insure their belongings. We believe that looking after your things is an extension of looking after yourself. Regardless of how well you’ve packed, when your items are at the mercy of the seas, accidents can happen. Always plan for the unexpected and opt for insurance.

Medical Management

Although it depends on your level of cover, most overseas health insurance only covers emergencies. Seeing the doctor in your new country can be an expensive exercise if you’re not prepared or covered. Find out what steps you need to take to get appropriate health cover. Before you leave, it’s always a good idea to get a checkup and take a copy of your records with you. And don’t forget the kids’ vaccinations!

Driving

There’s nothing more frustrating than discovering your licence doesn’t cover car hire while you’re standing at the car rental office’s checkout queue. Don’t leave your licence to chance; get an international drivers permit before you leave. In some cases, it’s impossible to get one once you’ve left the country, so err on the side of caution. Also, international drivers permits are usually only valid for 12 months, so consider getting a local licence in your destination country and check what you’ll need to prepare from China to get one.

Before moving overseas, make sure you get the assistance you need. With our international network, Sunrise Relocation have got you covered across the globe. We’ll act as your single point of coordination, getting you settled faster than you can imagine.
